Program Director Training Course

Standard Drill PD.1

Drill Purpose:   The Purpose of this drill is to increase the Trainee’s awareness of the costs related to operating a business.

Drill Commands:   There are 2 commands given by the Coach, which are alternated during the drill.

“Look around this room and find something that does not cost the company money,”

and

“Look around this room and find something that did not cost the company money.”

Drill Setup:  The Staff Training Officer (or assigned Coach) and the Trainee stand (or sit) in an area of the studio so as not to disturb other students in training.  The Coach gives the first command to the Trainee who then responds with an answer.  The Coach acknowledges the Trainee’s answer and then gives the second command and awaits the Trainee’s answer.  Commands are given alternately in this fashion until the Trainee reaches the end result of the drill.

During the drill the Trainee may make an origination of an item in the room that they believe DOES NOT or DID NOT cost the company money, such as “the air”.  The Coach can then ask the Trainee if the air has been treated or conditioned in anyway, to which the Trainee should realize that the Air Conditioning of the room costs the company money.

End Result:  An increased awareness of the costs related to doing business.  The Trainee will usually have a big realization and make a statement such as “Everything in the room costs the company money.” or “I can’t find anything that doesn’t cost the company money.” When this has occurred give the Trainee a pass on the drill.
